2000 Trees 2010
I have tried to write this bloody post at least a dozen times now, yet every time I do and Tumblr assures me it’s saved to drafts, I return to find the whole effing thing gone. This is beyond annoying, given that I must have written the same several thousand words multiple times when I hate typing long-winded posts at the best of times.
A wise man would learn and save the draft in Pages,...

2000Trees
I’ve just sent off the films I shot over the course of the 2000trees festival in Cheltenham. I went to my favourite shop in the world (Mr Cad in Croydon) and bought a cheap 135mm f/2.8 and two twenty roll boxes of Fuji Superia 400, two five roll boxes of Portra 160NC (not a natural festival film, but I can’t bear to be without it for too long) and some Tri-X. I shot all but 4 rolls of...

The death of an old friend.
Earlier this week one of my Fujis, which has been my reliable workhorse for studio and commercial gigs, started to give up the ghost. It was starting to misfire the shutter, and was generally sounding rather rough. By the weekend it had completely died.
I started to think what I should put my money into as a back-up body to my shiny new D300s. The Fuji did make some lovely images, and can still...

The VF Debacle.
My MP finally landed back on British soil last night according to the lovely people at Leica when I spoke to them a few minutes ago. It sounds like I’m going to be receiving a hefty bill for a large-scale overhaul of its RF assembly (dropping it isn’t the best move for keeping it in a healthy condition), and as I mourned my rapidly diminishing credit limit for this month, I got...

John Mayer at the Apollo
At first I wasn’t a huge fan of Battle Studies. It was a little too ‘pop’ oriented, and there wasn’t enough of his amazing bluesiness on it for my liking (save for Crossroads and Assassin).
Having just seen him play them live, in the flesh, about 2 rows from the front, I completely get it now. The songs make far more sense; seeing him play them without the interference of...
conflict: 1.4 or 1.8?

i think i have enough money to get the 50mm 1.4.
the thing is, is it really worth the upgrade? i mean i do use my 50mm 1.8 all the time, but i’d like a wider lens really….
I would save up for the 1.2. My brother just recently got it and since it’s from canons L series he said it’s absolutely amazing. Like the color and the way the light goes through it is apparently...
The Project
I’ve had the idea for a while that, in keeping with my ideas of photographic simplicity being tantamount to photographic truth (or to put it in a simpler way; keeping things simple keeps things truer to life), I should try to go a month shooting one camera, one lens and one type of film. This would serve to stop me over-thinking things as can so often be the case when dragging around 3x DSLRs, 8...
The Mamiya C330.
I’d long been hankering after a 6x6 TLR, and when I saw that Mr. Cad in Croydon was having a 50% off sale, I felt that the time to pounce on one was perfect. Was this a great decision? I’m still not sure. Yes, it cost me £200 for the pristine body and 3 pristine lenses, which isn’t the cheapest I could’ve got it for I’m sure, but on the other hand I also got to have a...

Devved the Leica’s 2nd roll earlier, some ACROS with all the snow photos on. I was a bIt concerned about the results beforehand because I shot it at 400 by mistake and had to guesstimate a dev time (massive dev chart didn’t have push times for Ilfosol). My worries were somewhat unfounded, as they appear to be all properly exposed, other than the last 11 or so, which have turned...
Patience, grasshopper.
Soon there will be a (lengthy) review of my Christmas present appearing.
“What was this Christmas present?” I hear you ask.
A shiny, pristine condition Mamiya C330f with the Black 80mm f/2.8
Keep your ears to the ground, it should be appearing by new years’.
The Long Awaited Film
Some of you may remember that I was lucky enough to get 11 rolls of film for free from Kodak a few months ago. This has now started a love affair with Portra 160NC, and created an intense dislike of Ektar 100. It took me a while to use it all up, as I tend to automatically put B/W into my cameras when going out and about, because I can process B/W stock at home within 30 minutes of walking in the...
Soooo...
I’ve been away for a good long while, and as you’d expect it’s because I’ve been very very busy with some things which have nothing to do with photography in any way. I have had some time to take photos, it’s just that I haven’t had enough to get around to any developing, post-processing or editing.
It seems to me that those have become even more integral into...

The Trip 35...
The Trip 35 was way ahead of its time. As in lightyears, and in a few ways it’s actually far better designed than a lot of far more expensive and modern cameras. Take, for example, the way it powers its meter - a selenium cell, or in slightly less geeky terms, a solar panel. That’s right, a camera which was originally designed more than 30 years ago powers a fully automatic exposure system...
RAW ain't all it's cracked up to be...
I started thinking about how I could streamline my workflow whilst waiting for 300+ shots to download from my S5 onto my computer (Bear in mind that the RAW files in extended dynamic range modes are about 50mb a pop. It was a long and boring wait.) and I suddenly realised something glaringly obvious.
I spent a fair bit of money on a high-spec camera (at least it WAS high-spec when I bought it....
The Project
A while back I suggested that I’d be shooting with one lens and one camera for a few weeks. I did do it (oh ye of little faith), it’s just that I haven’t had enough time to process the film as yet. When I do it’ll be up on the website.
Also on the to-do list photography wise is:
Process the free film from Kodak (gonna cost me about £40, but at least I didn’t have to...

Hiatus
I’ve been taking a bit of a break from updating this because I’ve been busy doing about a million and one other things. Mainly exams and celebrating their end, but the main thing that has been stopping me uploading to this sight has been covering loads of events.
Whilst that’s good for money, it leaves me photographically knackered, and also leaves me with thousands of photos,...
